Method 1: Disable Windows Search For Improved Disk Performance

  • First, open start and search for the command prompt (cmd).
  • Run command prompt as administrator by right click on it.
  • Type the following command and hit the enter button.
net.exe stop "Windows search"

This will stop windows search from running in the background until windows is restarted next time. To permanently disable windows search simply follow below steps:

  • Open the Run by pressing Windows key + R button from keyboard.
  • Type services.msc and hit the enter button.
  • Find the windows search inside services and double click on it.
  • Select Disabled under Startup type and click on OK button.

Method 2: Disable ScheduleDefrage

  • Open start, search for task scheduler and open it.
  • Go to task scheduler library > Microsoft > Windows > Defrag.
